Animaniacs: Volume 1

I finally got my hands on a copy of Animaniacs Volume 1 on DVD this past Friday! It's been worth the wait!
This show has always been a great influence on my own cartoons.... I love the fact that Warner Bros Animation were able to create new "Looney" 'toons for a new generation.
Animaniacs has quite a cast!
The headliners are The Warner Brothers, Yakko & Wakko, and the Warner Sister, Dot. The trio are said to be classic characters created back in the 1930's but their cartoons were too crazy so they were captured and sealed in the Warner Bros water-tower until they escaped in the 1990's.
Warner Bros studio's CEO, Thadeous Plotz, wants Ralph The Guard, Hello Nurse, and Dr. Scratchnsniff to tame the zaniness of The Warner Brothers.
Pinky & The Brain debuted on this series before they got their own spin-off show.
Slappy Squirrel is a retired classic Warner Bros star who gets into adventures with her nephew Skippy.
The Goodfeathers, Bobby, Pesto & Squit are pigeons who are modeled after the characters in the film, Goodfellas. They follow orders given by The Godpigeon.
Mindy is a small girl who is always protected by her loyal dog Buttons.
Rita is an alley cat searching for a good home along with a stray dog named Runt.
Flavio & Marita are the Hip Hippos who move from the jungle to live in the city.
Chicken Boo is a giant chicken who wants to be a man.
This volume collects the first 25 episodes of the series which are made up of about 2 - 5 segments an episode.
There is an special feature called: Animaniacs Live! Maurice LaMarche (the voice of The Brain) hosts interviews with the other voice actors and other folks who worked on the show.

Many different animation studios worked on episodes and it is cool to see the mixture of styles each studio uses. The musical scores were overlooked by Richard Stone who captures the style and tone of the original Looney Tunes composer Carl Stalling.
I highly recommend this set if you are an animation fan or even if your not! I give this set 5 stars! The next volume of both Animaniacs and Pinky & The Brain are due out this holiday season! Can't wait for those!
