Sesame Street: Old School

I recently picked up a copy of Sesame Street: Old School Vol. 1.
What a blast from the past! This set features the first episode of the first 5 seasons. (1969 - 1974) The set has been released by Sony Wonder and it comes with a great booklet about the history of the series.
I never noticed when I was a kid just how "getto" Sesame Street was. It's not a bad thing, it's very down to earth and really reflects the time it was produced.
The first episode opens with a disclamer that says, "This collection is meant for adult audiences and may not be suitable for today's preschooler...", I knew I was in for something special.
The first episode features humans Gordon, Susan, Mr.Hooper, Bob and a bunch of kids.

The first muppets to be featured are Big Bird, (check out his head..) Ernie & Bert, (thanks to the computer you can see a little of Frank Oz performing Bert..) Oscar the Grouch, (he didn't turn green untill the second season..) kermit the frog and Cookie Monster.
There were guest stars galore on Sesame Street. Guests such as James Earl Jones, Lou Rawls, Batman, Superman, Bill Cosby, Carol Burnett, Jesse Jackson, Johnny Cash etc...etc...

Other Muppets to make appearances are Guy Smiley, Grover, Sherlock Hemlock, Little Bird, the Yip Yip Aliens, Harvey Kneeslapper, The Count, Mumford the Magician, the Twiddlebugs, Prairie Dawn and a frightning first appearance of Mr. Snuffleupagus.

There are many reconizable animated segments as well as skits. There is one Super Grover adventure and you also get to witness Cookie eat a life size truck.
So I must say this nostalgia collection of episodes is a real treat and I recommend this set to anyone who grew up with the series. Relive how to get, how to get to Sesame Street....
