Roger Rabbit Review

Here's the Siskel & Ebert review of 1988's Who Framed Roger Rabbit!

Acme Headgear

Now you bikers can protect your melon by sporting these Looney Tunes helmets!
Only 2 characters to choose from, Wile E. Coyote & the Roadrunner, which is the logical choice I guess.
http://blog.livedoor.jp/expert9911/archives/54851220.html
I'm not sure of the actual language of the site, but at least they're giving classic cartoons more publicity. (What's with the Mini Pink Panther characters?)

UP with Pixar

A conceptual image of the next Pixar film has hit the web.
http://www.animated-news.com/2008/new-up-concept-image/
"Up" is the story of an elderly man who helps battle beasts and villians! Expect to see the final film in theatres in 2009!

Acme Jet Skates

Here's an interesting item I found while digging through a long forgotten box.
A newspaper clipping featuring the Looney Tunes gang honouring Winnipeg's only NHL hockey team, The Winnipeg Jets.I believe this cel was a limited creation when the franchise moved to Phoenix, Arizona and became the Phoenix Coyotes.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winnipeg_Jets
At the time, Winnipeg was celebrating it's own small animation cel craze when an animation cel franchise opened up a local store. I forget the name.
If I had money back then, I would've gone crazy in that gallery!

Animated Yenny

David Alvarez's comic strip star is getting the animated treatment at last.
http://www.animationmagazine.net/article/7848
Yenny appeared 7 years ago when the strip was distributed by Universal Press Syndicate.
David Alvarez's Deviant Art page confirms the news that the Spanish Animation company Black Maria will begin production of the series later this year!

Personally I've always loved Alvarez's work in DC Comics' Looney Tunes title. Best of luck on the animated series Dave!

"The Spectre of Cartoon Appeal"
I stumbled across the great paintworks of one Todd Schorr.

Very Rare Duck

Heritage Auction Galleries feature very interesting animation-related items once in a while.
http://www.ha.com/
I came across a recent auction featuring a very rare 1947 Disney Cheerios Premium. (a mini-comic inserted in a package of Quaker Oats I wager...)
"Donald Duck's Atom Bomb" features appearances of Huey, Dewey and Louie with art by Carl Barks and was banned from ever being reprinted for obvious reasons.

This tiny booklet has an Overstreet value of $538 according to Heritage's records. Does anyone have any more information about this rare story?

More and More Smurfettes

According to a recent article on Yahoo! Movies, the upcoming CG film based on the tiny blue Belgian characters are going to have more female characters.

http://movies.yahoo.com/mv/news/va/20080114/120035272300.html

"There have been dramatic changes in socio-cultural values in the past 20 to 25 years," Hendrik Coysman, head of Smurf rights holder IMPS told a news conference on Monday. "One of these is girl empowerment."

The Force is Strong with Robot Chicken

Back in July of 2007, Cartoon Network's Adult Swim aired a special episode of Robot Chicken with a Star Wars theme.
Featuring both the cooperation and voice of George Lucas, Seth Green's stop-motion special was a hit with audiences. Expect to see the special hit shelves on May 20th with it's own DVD release.

Duckman Coming to DVD

"Put your down, down! And thrust your pelvis, HUHH! Thrust your pelvis, HUHH!"
Sorry just doing a little celebration dance called the "Duckman" used primarily by the character known as "Duckman".
It seems that CBS DVD has finally decided to release the adult oriented show to DVD due to fans' demands.

The series follows the adventures of a private detective duck who lives with his family and sister-in-law Bernice (an identical twin to his wife). Duckman's wife, Beatrice, died before the show began. The tagline of the show, seen in the opening credits, is "Private Dick/Family Man."

Haven't heard much about the brand new series starring everyone's favorite wall crawler?
Well, it begins in March and is called The Spectacular Spider-Man. From what I've read, the new series boasts strong character designs and fluid animation. Let's hope the stories entertain as much as these images!

Unused Animation from Looney Tunes: BIA

I came across a blog belonging to a good ol' fashion, traditional, 2D animator by the name of Matt Williames who got his start ironically enough with Space Jam.
http://handdrawnnomadzone.blogspot.com/
He features a couple of unused animation from the recent Looney Tunes film, Back in Action, including a small clip of more Pepe Le Pew animation not seen in the finished version. Check out his great artwork and animations!
