"Mad Love" is the dark origin of The Joker's sidekick Harley Quinn, the character introduced in the 90's Batman: The Animated Series. The story was actually adapted into an episode of the animated series in 1999.

I have Batman: Dangerous Dames and Demons that includes this story. I loved the collection and in general, the Batman animated comics were actually much better then the animated series overall. There was one terrific story with The Scarecrow when he plans to render Gotham completely illiterate.

I haven't heard of that collection before. What year is it from? Whenever I tried to find Mad Love online, only the single one-shot kept popping up. And alone, it's quite expensive. I thought this was the first affordable compilation novel!

Dangerous Dames and Demons was published in June 2003. I was lucky to find a copy at my local comic chop. Amazon has it for $27.00 used.
